The artwork of a 17-year-old Palmyra Area High School senior has been selected as the official logo of the borough’s 250th anniversary committee. Tyler Keshner created the logo based on the state seal. The orange, black and white logo contains the slogan for the 250th anniversary in 2010. "Palmyra 1760-2010" is written across the top, and a wavy banner along the bottom contains the words "A celebration of pride, 250th." In the center of the logo is a large letter "P" with a palm frond on either side. Keshner, the son of Rick and Sandy Keshner, said he did research on seals and decided to model his logo on the state seal. The result was selected from 15 that were submitted to the borough’s 250th anniversary committee.
Art students at the high school were assigned to design a logo. Committee members then voted for the best one.
Jay Armold, committee president, presented Keshner with a certificate of recognition and a $50 gift certificate from Comics and Paperbacks Plus. Keshner also received a $100 check from the committee and $50 for a portrait session from Flory Photography Studio in Palmyra.
In other committee business, Armold said the committee will kick off its yearlong celebration on Nov. 14, 2009, with a concert by the West Point Glee Club.
The committee is promoting another fund-raiser. Friendly’s Restaurant in Palmyra will donate 20 percent of the proceeds from meals served between 5 and 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month to the 250th anniversary. The next night will be April 17. Patrons must present a coupon when they order their meals. For more information about where to get the coupons, call Armold at 838-7541.
The committee’s next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 6 in the community room in the borough hall at 325 S. Railroad St.
